With more than 2.9 billion users, having a Facebook business page of your own is a must for interacting with customers.
Facebook estimates that there are around 200 million businesses that are active on Facebook and that 93% of businesses are active on the platform.
This data tells us that Facebook most likely has your target audience on its platform(s) and that these potential customers expect to be able to find your business's Facebook page even if there is low to no activity on the page.
Facebook business pages can be a great way to connect with your target audience. In this post, we will cover:
The benefits of having a Facebook business page.
How to create a new Facebook business page.
Finally, how to grow and track your new page.
What Is A Facebook Business Page
Your Facebook business page can help you promote your business and share information about your products or services.
You can also use a Facebook business page to collect feedback from customers and respond to questions and comments.
Facebook Business Page vs Personal Facebook Page
Your Facebook business page is different than your personal Facebook account.
Having a Facebook business page can:
Prevent you from having to share your personal account login details with employees.
Benefit you by granting you access to the large amounts of people that use Facebook, don't forget that Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and more.
Provide a place to start testing messaging for your audience.
Why Do You Need A Facebook Business Page
There are three key reasons to create a Facebook business page.
Management of customer relationships
Page roles
Facebook ads
First, having a Facebook business page enables you to manage your relationship with your customers more efficiently.
For customers - Your Facebook business page acts as your Facebook presence on the platform.
As an owner - A Facebook business page can help you remove yourself from the brand. Instead of customers searching you out to find updates they can search your page.
This allows you to better manage updates.
This leads to the second point having a Facebook business page provides you with page roles, allowing better management of employees and contractors.
From your Facebook business page, you can add/remove employees to your Facebook business page. This allows you to delegate community management to another team member.
Select Manage in the top right corner to view page settings and edit page roles.

Then look for page access on the left sidebar.

You can always remove that person as the admin if they leave your company.
Below are the three types of access you can provide your employee/contractor.
Facebook Access - With this access Facebook users can, "Switch into the page" and speak as your brand. This means the comments, likes, etc coming from that team member will appear as though coming from your page while speaking as your brand.
In the image below I'm currently acting as the brand but can switch back to my personal profile once done. To get here go to the upper right-hand corner and click on your profile image from the drop-down menu, to speak as your brand.

Facebook access can be full or partial.
With partial access, the user can manage: content, messages, comments, linked accounts, ads, insights, events, and removals and bans
With full Facebook access, the user can do everything that partial access can do, and also remove people, edit the page, delete the page, manage billing, etc. In essence, they have very similar page access to you, so be careful.
Task Access - With task access the user cannot, "Switch into the page" to speak as your brand. They also cannot manage groups or events, this is reserved for those with Facebook access.
They can, however, manage content, messages, community activity, ad, and insights.
Content Moderators - According to Facebook, "Community managers can moderate chate comments, suspend, or remove people who violate community standards, and seel all admins of this Page."
The third reason why you need a Facebook business page is for Facebook ads.
If you are looking to scale your business using Facebook ads, then you will need a Facebook business page.
Your Facebook business page connects with the Facebook business manager and associates your ads with your ads manager account, which is where you create your Facebook ads.

How To Build A Facebook Business Page
Let's dive in and create a Facebook business page.
To do this we are going to go to: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create

If this page is not showing up for you and you are seeing an error message. Then you are currently logged in under a page you created or someone else created and you manage.

All Facebook business pages need to be connected to a personal account. As there is currently no way to create a new Facebook business page without it being tied to a personal Facebook page.
To switch from your personal Facebook profile. Go to the top right-hand corner drop-down menu.

Create Your Facebook Page Name
The first step in creating your Facebook business page will be setting up the name, category, and bio.
If you have an established business then naming your Facebook business page is easy. Insert it and move on.
If you are starting a new business and decided to start with your social media accounts before naming your company...
...well here's Shopify's name generator, hopefully, it will bring you as much happiness in naming your business as it did for me.

Once done you should go check that domain on your hosting service of choice, just to make sure your new name is available.
What Are Facebook Categories And How Are They Defined
Facebook categories help new potential customers find your business page. The problem is there are so many categories, and what happens if you don't fit into one specific Facebook category?
Luckily, Facebook lets you can pick up to three categories for your business page.
The goal here is to be as specific as possible, however, if there is no specific category for your business look for any relevant category.
Whatever Facebook category you choose, Facebook is going to group you with similar Facebook pages.
This allows Facebook to recommend you to users who are searching for your type of business near their location.
So if you are in the beauty category you shouldn't also select the commercial and industrial equipment supplier, as you do not want to show up for those searches.
Create Your Facebook Business Page Bio
When creating your Facebook business page's bio there are a few rules to keep in mind.
First, keep your page goal in mind. Is the goal to get people to book a meeting with you? Maybe include that in your bio.
Second, make sure the goal is clear and concise. For example, "Looking for help with your Facebook ads, book a call and learn how we can help today."
Add Your Facebook Cover Photo And Facebook Profile Photo
When uploading your Facebook cover image and profile image here are some quick tips.
Make sure you aren't violating anyone else's copyright with your profile and cover photo.
This is a business cover image, if you are in doubt about the cover or profile picture content, would you show the image to a 5-year-old?
Be sure that your cover photo or profile photo is not violating any terms and conditions set by Facebook.
Cover Photo And Profile Photo
For your profile picture: 180X180 pixels, according to Facebook this, "Displays at 170x170 pixels on your Page on computers, 128x128 pixels on smartphones and 36x36 pixels on most feature phones."
For your cover photo: "Displays at 820 pixels wide by 312 pixels tall on your Page on computers and 640 pixels wide by 360 pixels tall on smartphones."
