Choose One Of Facebook's Ad Formats

The first step to begin improving your Facebook image ads is to improve the ad format that works best for you.

If you are just getting started Facebook offers many different ad formats within the Facebook ads manager.

Facebook offers a wide range of ad formats to test.
Facebook Ad Formats

In general, you will have 4 options.

  • Carousel - Great for displaying a wide breadth of products to new audiences or someone who has indicated an interest in one of your products.

  • Collections - Similar to carousel ads, great for displaying a wide breadth of products, allows for a large hero image.

  • Single image ad - Traditional ad format. Focuses on a single product.

  • Story Ads - Great for brand awareness and introducing people to your brand.

Select The Focus Of Your Facebook Ad Image

Once you have your ad format selected choose the focus of your Facebook ad image.

Your focus is how you wish to display your product/service.

You have three options to focus your Facebook ad on.

  • Person

  • Product

  • Solution

Person (model)

The first focus is the person (model). In this focus, the person is the central part of your ad.

Below is an example of a Facebook ad that is focused on the person... in this case the model is a cat.

Pick Your Topic

Once you have your ad format and focus you can choose the topic for your Facebook ad image.

  • Branding/Story - Tell your story in an authentic way that connects with your audience

  • Statistics - Point out a statistic that is important to your audience.

  • Co-Branding - Partnerships, can be with larger or smaller brands.

  • Dynamic - DABA Ad that can dynamically show Facebook ads based on what people saw or added to cart.

  • Single USP - Single benefit to purchasing your product.

  • Multi USP - Maybe you have multiple benefits, use this.

  • Review - Highlight a review on your site.

Track And Optimize Your Facebook Ad Image Results

Now that you have chosen your ad format and focus, it is time to track and optimize your results.

Keep in mind that not all combos will help you achieve your campaign objective. If you need help reviewing what campaign objectives are you can read this post.

For example, if you are looking to drive brand awareness to new customers start with a carousel or collection Facebook ad.

While if you are looking to promote a single product or retarget viewers who have abandoned cart, showing a single image ad or story ad would be a better choice.

As you track your results you will find that certain combos work better for you than others.

When this happens dive into why those succeeded.

If you run a single image, with a person, and did a co-branding campaign.

  • Some questions to ask are is would this work with a bigger brand?

  • Would we get the same results if we did this with influencers?

  • If we had a male as the focus would a female do better or worse for our audience?

By tracking how each Facebook ad helps you achieve your campaign objective, you can determine which images are performing well and modify where needed until you reach maximum efficiency.

Use This Framework To Create Ads Quickly And Determine What's Working For You

Testing different combinations of Facebook ad formats, focuses, and topics will allow you to quickly build out Facebook ads and discover what works best for your brand.
